Elsősorban a nyílt, füves pusztákat, sztyeppéket és a mezőgazdasági területeket kedveli. Nem épít saját fészket; más madarak (például varjak, ölyvek) elhagyott fészkeibe költözik be, vagy mesterséges fészkelőládákat vesz igénybe, amelyeket gyakran magasfeszültségű oszlopokra helyeznek ki a szakemberek a védelmük érdekében.

It primarily prefers open grasslands, steppes, and agricultural areas. It does not build its own nest; it occupies abandoned nests of other birds (like crows or buzzards) or uses artificial nesting boxes often placed on high-voltage pylons by professionals for their protection.

Legfőbb tápláléka az ürge, de mivel az ürgék téli álmot alszanak, ilyenkor más rágcsálókat (például mezei pockot) vagy kisebb-közepes termetű madarakat (például seregélyeket, galambokat) zsákmányol. Rendkívül gyors és ügyes vadász, a levegőben és a földön is képes elkapni áldozatát.

Its main food source is the European ground squirrel (suslik), but since they hibernate in winter, the falcon hunts other rodents (like field voles) or small to medium-sized birds (like starlings or pigeons) during that time. It is an extremely fast and skillful hunter, capable of catching its prey both in the air and on the ground.

The Saker Falcon is one of the most valuable birds of prey in our country. It is a large, light-colored falcon that hunts in open steppes. Hungary plays a prominent role in the European protection of the species.
